Eighty-one years ago today, the world witnessed one of the most courageous military undertakings in history. Over 150,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in a bold effort to liberate Europe from tyranny. It was the beginning of the end of World War II.

They faced impossible odds. Rough seas. Hardened defenses. Machine gun fire and uncertainty with every step forward. But they went anyway—ordinary men with extraordinary bravery.

Today, we remember their sacrifice. We honor their courage. And we reflect on the cost of freedom.

Let us never forget what they gave for the world we live in now.
